HALIFAX -- Several people are stranded but safe and three people were sheltered in the town offices because of the storm, said Town Clerk Patricia Dow.
"We got hit pretty hard, but we're holding our own," Dow said.
As of press-time there were four exit routes out of Halifax, she said. Road crews have been working around the clock clearing debris made of people's homes and 30-foot trees.
"90 percent of the roads here were completely washed out," Dow said. "The worst part is Green River Road, which is completely gone."
Since there are exits through Halifax to Greenfield, Mass., people from Whitingham, Wilmington, Jacksonville and Marlboro who were able to, were given directions on how to navigate through the town if they needed to leave.
But authorities are urging people to stay home unless absolutely necessary, Dow said.
