NEWFANE -- A man died Friday morning when his pickup truck overturned into the Wardsboro Brook, according to Vermont State Police.
The man, whose name is not yet released pending notification of next of kin, was involved in an accident on South Wardsboro Road in Newfane shortly after 9:30 a.m, state police said,
The man’s 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on the road and was rounding a left-hand curve in muddy conditions when the right side tires left the eastern portion of the roadway, police said.
His truck then went over a steep bank and rolled onto its roof facing northwest when passing vehicles spotted it, state police said.
Witnesses said the victim was partially submerged in the water while in the driver’s seat, his seat belt still attached, and extricated him before state police and rescue personnel arrived.
The NewBrook Fire Department and Rescue Inc. both responded to the scene, and personnel initiated CPR on the victim, state police said.
Rescue Inc. transported the man to Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend, where he was pronounced dead at 10:37 a.m., state police said.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled by Vermont’s Chief Medical examiner to determine the cause of death, state police said.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and anyone with information relating to this accident is asked to contact State Police Sgt. Mike Sorensen at 802-254-2382.
