WESTMINSTER -- Two New Hampshire women escaped serious injuries after their car crashed on Interstate 91 when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Caitlin Truell, 23, of Charlestown, N.H. was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer southbound, near exit 5, in Westminster, just after midnight Saturday morning, when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer that had entered the road, according to the Vermont State Police.

Truell lost control of the car, the police say, and after going off the road the vehicle went up an embankment and rolled over.

Truell and her passenger, Jennifer Tozzi, 29, of Claremont, N.H., were not wearing seatbelts, according to police.

They were able to get out of the car, which eventually caught fire and was destroyed in the wreck.

Both were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation and the State Police are asking anyone who might have seen the accident to contact them.
