MARLBORO -- Two part-time New Hampshire residents died Friday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on Route 9 in Marlboro.
John Brown, 73, and Leona Miller, 72, who are both from Florida but live part of the year in Fremont, N.H., died at the scene, police say, after the three-wheeled motorcycle they were driving left the roadway near the Marlboro Town Highway garage.
Police say Brown was driving the 2011 Cam Am Spyder west on Route 9 when it left the south side of the road between the highway garage and Town Hill Road just before 3:30 p.m.
The Cam Am Spyder is a three wheeled motorcycle with two front wheels and a single rear wheel.
The vehicle traveled down a steep downgrade before impacting several trees and Miller was ejected, the police report states.
She died at the scene.
Brown was able to crawl to the road where he summoned help.
He received aid from a passerby, according to the police report, and was put into an ambulance which headed down Route 9 toward Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Police say his condition deteriorated rapidly and he died in the Rescue Inc. ambulance before he got to the hospital.
Vermont State Police Sgt. Mike Sorensen said no witnesses have come forth to report on Friday's fatal accident and police do not know why the vehicle left the road.
Sorensen says there was no evidence of intoxication or excessive speed, and he said another vehicle does not appear to have been involved in the accident.
Sorensen also did not have autopsy results Sunday.
For about two-and-a-half hours Friday afternoon traffic was only moving in one direction along Route 9 near the accident site.
The Marlboro Fire Department offered traffic control assistance while the police investigated the scene Friday.
Anyone who might have witnessed the accident is asked to call the Brattleboro barracks at 802-254-2382.
