BRATTLEBORO -- A major expansion at Auto Mall is underway and the owners say a more modern facility and brand recognition will likely have an increased appeal to customers.

Co-owner Christian McCauley said the idea for a new building, which will replace the current one at 800 Putney Road, was devised about two years ago. He said the new facility is one all the employees and managers are looking foward to.

"It will be a lot more attractive to the people than this place," McCauly said in his office Monday. David Gale is the other co-owner.

The new state-of-the-art building has been designed to cover 32,000-square-feet and have 24 bays, including medium-duty trucks. It will also be more energy-efficient (with LED lighting) and user-friendly.

General Sales Manager Bob Gammon said the new building will be more modern and give everyone extra room to work. He also said the building will provide more showroom space, which will be glassed in.

"The new facility will give us a better atmosphere to present six different models," he said, pointing from his desk at the red 2013 Chevy Sonic that sits there now. "It will be a lot easier for the consumers to look at and compare (vehicles)."

Chevy and the three other main brands (GMC and Buick) will also have a solid footprint at the facility when their trademarks signs and decals are shipped in from headquarters.

Gammon said brand recognition will help both the business and the community, by letting the public see what sort of products are sold there.

The construction work, which an employee said was being done by RDR Construction, is expected to be completed before snowfall.

The current building will be torn down once all equipment and supplies are moved into the new facility.
