LAWN AND TAG SALE: A lawn and tag sale, sponsored by the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 161 Western Ave., in Brattleboro on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be held inside if raining. Large size women's clothing, books, a vacuum cleaner and other odds and ends will be available. There will be some children's items. Also, homemade cinnamon rolls, other homemade goodies, coffee and cold drinks.

WICKED BMX FILM: "A Wicked Ride: A Ride that Never Ends," The Origins of Freestyle BMX in New England, will be shown at Latchis Theatre, 50 Main St., on Saturday, May 24, at 4 p.m. The documentary film is about the rise of BMX trick riding in New England in the 1980s. Several Brattleboro riders were part of the riding scene.

Partial proceeds of the event will go to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro.

Proceeds are used to fund scholarships for local students studying horticulture and to support other club community projects.

GEOLOGY WALK AND TALK: Former geology professor John Warren will lead a tour of Putney's Beatrice Aiken Conservation Site on Sunday, May 25, at 10 a.m. Participants will learn how to identify the "Putney Volcanics," a bedrock formation originally named after Putney because the town provides the best example in the state of these metavolcanic rocks. Warren will then lead a walk of the loop trail and trace the story its rocks tell about ancient volcanic eruptions and other events which occurred millions of years ago. The trail is steep in two short sections, The Putney Conservation Commission is sponsor of the geological walk. Parking is just south of the trailhead on Old Route 5, at the Putney-Dummerston line.

FARMERS' MARKET: The 5th annual summer Putney Farmers' Market is opening this weekend. The market is Sunday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from the Putney Co-op on Carol Brown Way. It will be a rhubarb-filled day with rhubarb recipes from The Gleanery, and live music. The market will be held every Sunday until Oct. 5.

Breakfast will be served between 8 and 10 a.m., and will feature pancakes with local maple syrup, Riverbend Market Hunter's sausage, coffee and juice. The price is $6 for adults and $4 for children older than 4 with a maximum of $20 per family.

CHICKEN BARBECUE: The West Brattleboro Association hosts a chicken barbecue on Saturday, May 24, starting at 11 a.m. until gone, in front of the First Congregational Church at 880 Western Ave. There will also be dessert available at the bake sale sponsored by the church.
