COLLECTORS' CLUB: The Tri Town Collectors Club will hold a Coin, Comic Book, Sports, Postcard and Stamp Hobby Show on Saturday, July 12, at the Holiday Inn Express on Chickering Drive in Brattleboro from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The group has decided to continue its Brattleboro event on a year round basis, announcing its summer schedule for the second Saturday of the month.
Besides the usual offerings of coins, currency, stamps and sports cards, there will be a special quiz for collectors at the coin club table giving away many interesting door prizes including a nice group of collectable quarters and groups of donated stamps from a Bellows Falls collector.
This month, three new coin collectors will be present, including a Canadian coin specialist. There also will be a collector with a large presentation of vintage sports cards and two comic book dealers.

MANAGEMENT SUMMER CAMP: Marlboro College Graduate and Professional Studies is hosting its first Nonprofit Management Summer Camp on Friday, Aug. 1, from 9:30 am. to 4 p.m., a one-day retreat for non-profit professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to choose two tool-based and interactive workshops focused on social media, leadership, time management, or Results-Based Accountability. A $50 registration fee includes two workshops, lunch, and ample networking time with other nonprofit professionals.

FOOD FESTIVAL: The Grafton Inn will host the second annual Grafton Food Festival, a celebration of local food and farms in Vermont, July 12 and 13, in Grafton Village. The event is presented by Northeast FLAVOR, an award-winning food and wine magazine focused on New England culinary pursuits.
The weekend's celebration of Vermont's taste of place gives festival goers the opportunity to sample local food from regional food providers, enjoy celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, attend a farmer's brunch and meet the world-renowned chef Mary Ann Esposito.
On Saturday, July 12, the festivities take place under the event tent and include tastings from more than 20 vendors including Grafton Village Cheese, Sidehill Farm, Blake Hill Preserves, and more from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. New this year is a Junior Iron Chef event, Grafton's version of the statewide culinary competition that challenges teams of Vermont students to create healthy, local dishes that inspire school meal programs.
Guests will also have the chance to enjoy cooking demonstrations featuring nationally recognized chefs including Jason Tostrup of Okemo Mountain Resort, Martin Schuelke of the Grafton Inn and Lisa Richards of Green Mountain Flour.
The highlight of the weekend includes celebrity guest participation by Mary Ann Esposito, host of the PBS television cooking show, Ciao Italia. This year, the series, focusing on authentic Italian cuisine, celebrates its milestone 25th season, making it the longest running cooking series in television history. Esposito will conduct an apron signing on Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. and will perform a free cooking demonstration on Sunday, July 13, at 11 a.m., followed by a book signing.
On Sunday, a Farmers' breakfast featuring many of the Grafton Food Festival vendors will be held in the Grafton Inn courtyard from 8 to 11:30 a.m. An outdoor farmers' market will be held adjacent to the breakfast, as well as Esposito's cooking demonstration and book signing.
The Grafton Food Festival will be held under an all-weather tent behind the Grafton Inn, located in Grafton Village. Cost is $10 per person or $15 for a weekend pass; children under 12 are free.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Halifax Historical Society will kick off its 2014 season with the annual meeting and potluck supper at 6 p.m. on Friday. July 11, in the West Halifax Community Hall.
Wayne Courser, Chief of the Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, will speak about the history of the department and various methods of firefighting in the past.
The August meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, will be a joint meeting with the Whitingham Historical Society at the Jacksonville Municipal Building. Paul Woods, artifacts in hand, is the featured speaker and his topic will cover Ancient Farm Tools and Machinery.
On Wednesday Sept. 10, at 7 p.m., Kristine Sweeter, librarian of the Whitingham Free Library, has chosen as her topic library history and the recent renovations to the building. That meeting will be held in the West Halifax Community hall.
An October foliage walk in Halifax, date undecided, will conclude the season.

CIRCUS SMIRKUS: Ahoy, there! It's all hands on deck as another season with Circus Smirkus begins. This time, adventures on the high seas discovering maritime merriment under the big top is planned.
The intrepid crew climbs the rigging with aquatic aerialists, tumbles the surf with amphibious acrobats, and even catch and release some fishy jugglers. Help turn the tides for the castaway clowns set adrift in center ring. This nautical production will be ship shape, so hold your breath and ride the wave as Circus Smirkus 2014 Big Top Tour, Anchors Away for Atlantis is presented.
Dates of the show are Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15 and 16, with show times at 1 and 6 p.m. each day at the Cheshire Fairgrounds, 247 Monadnock Highway, in Swanzey.
The cost of the show is: Adults, (13 and above), $21; Youth (7-12), $17; Child (2-6), $14; and under 2 is free.

TOUR DE GRACE: Round up your family and friends of all ages and join Grace Cottage Hospital's 9th Annual Tour de Grace bicycle rally on Saturday, July 12.
The 17.7-mile, mostly downhill Tour de Grace helps raise money for patient care at Grace Cottage Hospital and is a fun, scenic, rural ride. Riders begin at the Stratton Resort Base Lodge parking lot anytime between 8 and 10 a.m. and finish at Grace Cottage on Route 35 in Townshend (buses will also be available to transport riders and bikes up to Stratton for registration, departing Grace Cottage Hospital between 8 to 8:30 a.m. only).
The route is well marked, maps are available at the starting point, and busses transport riders and bikes back to Stratton. Riders under 12 years old must ride with an adult, and helmets are required for all riders. Mountain/hybrid bikes are highly recommended.
Volunteers will be stationed along the route to provide free beverages, great snacks, and maybe even some musical entertainment. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 80 riders who sign up at www.gracecottage.org or by phone (802-365-9109). The entry fee is $30 on the day of the event.

FARM BUILDINGS TALK: The connected farm buildings which so characterize New Hampshire are unique to northern New England and were created in this area for specific reasons. Thomas Hubka, award-winning architectural historian, will present a discussion of this fascinating phenomenon, "Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn: the Connected Farm Buildings of New England," in the Walpole Town Hall on Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. The presentation, sponsored by the Walpole Historical Society, is underwritten by the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
Hubka's illustrated talk will use several case studies to demonstrate how farmers converted separate farm buildings into one continuous structure.
