NEWFANE -- A Vernon man was identified by police as the victim of a fatal accident on South Wardsboro Road in Newfane on Friday morning.
According to Vermont State Police, 55-year-old Robert Saunders died when his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado went over a steep bank and landed on its roof in the Wardsboro Brook.
Police say passers-by found him partially submerged in the driver’s seat and managed to get him out of the vehicle and perform CPR. Medical crews rushed him to Grace Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Authorities did not immediately release his name because they had not yet contacted his family.
