Font ResizeVERNON -- Police arrested a Guilford woman after she allegedly assaulted a Vernon woman and a police officer, resisted arrest and drove under the influence of alcohol with her 3-year-old child in the car.
According to Vernon Police, on June 22, at about 10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home along Basin Road for a reported domestic assault.
Investigation revealed that Jill Morse, 40, had broken into her sister’s home and a heated argument escalated to Morse punching and kicking the sister.
"She was heavily intoxicated when she arrived at the home and quickly became violent with her sister," said Sgt. Bruce Gauld.
Morse’s sister suffered only minor injuries and didn’t require medical attention, he said.
During the investigation, police learned that Morse, while intoxicated, had driven to the home with her child in the car.
The child apparently had no clothing on, was filthy and was in serious danger with its mother behind the wheel, police said.
As Officer Matthew Stains of the Vernon Police Department attempted to arrest Morse, she fought with him, pushing, shoving and trying to wrestle free.
Stains was eventually able to take Morse into custody, but not without first having to use Mace as she was threatening to cause the officer harm in an attempt to flee.

She was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility and held on lack of $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court Criminal Division today, to answer the charges.
