JAMAICA -- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Rt. 30 which forced police to close a section of the road for several hours, Sunday evening.

According to an emergency responder on scene, four local residents were involved in the head-on collision, shortly after 3:30 p.m. One person was pronounced dead on the scene; Another was taken by DHART to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with severe injuries. Two other people were transported to Grace Cottage Hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. It was not made clear which vehicles the victims were traveling in.

Both vehicles were traveling approximately 50 miles per hour, as per the posted speed limit in that area, when they collided near Ball Mountain Dam along Rt. 30 just outside the village of Jamaica.

More than 30 emergency personnel were on scene including members of the Jamaica, Winhall, Londonderry and South Londonderry fire departments, Rescue, Inc., Londonderry Rescue, Winhall Police Department and the Vermont State Police.

No other information is being given at this time as the investigation of the crash is ongoing. The identities of the four involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A half-mile section of Rt. 30 has been closed as emergency crews clear the scene. Police expected the road to be closed for the next several hours. A detour is in place.
