Putney

-- On Aug. 11 at approximately 4:20 a.m., the Vermont State Police responded to the report of a single-vehicle accident on Route 5.

According to police, Stacie A. Dean, 47, of Dummerston, said she crashed into a utility pole while attempting to avoid a skunk in the road. Though Dean was not injured in the accident, both the pole and the vehicle sustained major damage.

Townshend

-- On July 22, the Vermont State Police responded to Taft Road to the report of a single-vehicle accident.

During the investigation, it was determined Francis P. Wilkins, 41, of Townshend, was traveling south when his vehicle left the road and rolled over before coming to a rest on its wheels back on the road. At the time, alcohol and speed were suspected to be factors in the accident.

On Aug. 8, blood test results revealed Wilkins had a .1 percent blood alcohol content approximately 3.5 hours after the crash. Investigators also learned that Wilkins had been returning from dropping off a child when the accident occurred. He was ordered to appear in court on Aug. 28 to answer the charges of driving under the influence, careless and negligent operation and reckless endangerment.
