BRATTLEBORO -- Authorities had to stop an Amtrak passenger train for nearly an hour Wednesday evening while a car was stuck on the tracks off Bridge Street.
The driver, who was bound for the nearby Whetstone Station restaurant, accidentally steered his red Camaro onto the tracks because he thought they were a parking lot, police Lt. Jeremy Evans said.
Affordable Towing was summoned to remove the car. Police shut down a turning lane but were able to keep traffic moving through the area, Evans said.
However, an Amtrak train heading for Brattleboro had to stop. The process took about an hour, and the driver was not cited, Evans said.
