THETFORD -- The Brattleboro cross-country teams competed at the Thetford Woods Trail race on Saturday. Almost every BUHS runner ran their best time of the season.
The Colonel boys placed 40th out of 52 teams and the girls team placed 40th out of 41 teams, while fielding a complete team for the first time this season.
Catey Yost led the girls and had the top finish for the Colonels, placing 11th in her division with a nice time of 24:28 -- over a minute better than her previous personal best time. Aliza Racine also ran well in her first race, placing second for the team in 27:08. Olivia Hamm (27:14), Luci Hauty (31:31) and Dana Alexa (32:13) also competed for the purple and white.
On the boys side, freshman Tyler Clement had the best improvement, running more than a minute faster than his personal record and placing as the Colonels’ fifth scoring runner. Arturo Gutierez (19:29), Spencer Olson (19:33), Josh Parro (21:29), Jon Burdo (21:40) and Clement (22:16) rounded out Brattleboro’s top five.
The teams are back in action when they travel to Springfield on Tuesday.
TOWNSHEND -- The Leland & Gray soccer teams swept Bellows Falls in Saturday’s doubleheader, with the Rebels taking the girls game 2-0 and the boys game 7-0.
The Leland & Gray girls got goals from Addie Mahdavi and Chelby Nystrom, in a game that included a fight in the second half. Elizabeth Gallup earned the
Corey Nystrom, Tanner Winot and Jake Sherman all tallied twice for the Leland & Gray boys, while Frasier Query also split the posts. Ryan Borgeson racked up three assists, goalie Tanner Karg recorded his third shutout in a row and the Rebels improved to 7-2. The teams will have a rematch in Bellows Falls on Tuesday.

WILMINGTON -- On Homecoming Day, the Twin Valley boys and girls each outscored Stratton Mountain School.
Colin Lozito had a goal and a pair of assists as the Wildcats whipped da Bears 4-1. Hunter Therrien, Juan Carlos and Tony Tarr all scored once, while keeper Sam Molner stopped seven shots for Twin Valley (9-1).
Sophomore Miranda Post tapped one in with eight minutes remaining to give the Twin Valley girls a 1-0 decision over Stratton Mountain. Abbi Molner started the play and then Jordan Niles set Post up with a crossing pass. Brianna Rafus made five saves for the shutout and sweeper Hannah Swanson had another stellar game for the 4-3-2 Wildcats.

BURLINGTON -- The Burlington boys soccer team, ranked second in the state, shut out Brattleboro 3-0 on Friday. The 4-5 Colonels will face rival MAU on Wednesday.

HINSDALE, N.H. -- The Hinsdale girls soccer team was blanked by Newmarket 3-0 on Friday. Kenzie Bonnette made 10 saves for the Pacers and Amy Yannizze also played well. Hinsdale will play at Derryfield today.
