BRATTLEBORO -- A 19-year-old man is being treated for serious injuries at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after being stabbed during an altercation on Elliot Street on Friday morning, according to Brattleboro Police.

Shortly after responding to the scene at 1:30 a.m., police arrested Wilfredo Leyro, 30, of Greenfield, Mass., during a motor vehicle stop on suspicion of the stabbing.

Brattleboro Police Chief Gene Wrinn said the victim is under medical care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., but did not have a status update as of Friday afternoon. He said his department responded to a 911 call about a loud disturbance.

Wrinn said he did not expect more news to be released on the victim on Friday, as the investigation is on-going and additional arrests are expected.
