WILMINGTON -- Drew Barnum and Mike Bergeron scored 16 and 15 points respectively, including a combined 14 in the fourth quarter, to help the Leland & Gray boys basketball team to a thrilling 56-52 victory over Twin Valley on Wednesday evening.
"We knew coming in that they were a tough squad," said Wildcats coach Chris Brown. "It was a bummer to lose, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort."
The 5-1 Rebels went 12-of-16 from the free throw line in the last eight minutes. Jake Sherman had an important five-point scoring spurt in that span, while Zach Wilkins hit a huge 3 that gave the visitors the lead with 3:30 remaining.
Dal Nesbitt buried four trifectas and finished with 20 points to pace the 2-3 Wildcats. Floor general Colin Lozito contributed with 13 points and eight dimes.
Sunapee 81, Hinsdale 42
HINSDALE, N.H. -- Matt Boggio had a team-high 13 points for the Pacers, who dropped to 1-2 overall. Andrew O’Keefe followed with 11 points and Tanner Nichols added eight of his own. Hinsdale will play at Concord Christian on Friday.

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- The Brattleboro girls basketball team was outscored 17-6 in the second quarter and was unable to recover.
"We came out uncharacteristically sluggish. We’re not proud of only scoring 13 points in the first half.
Taylor Bird and Kayla Savage each finished with 10 points to lead the Colonels, while Bird also played good defense against the talented Monument Mountain point guard and finished with six rebounds. Maddy Derosia was next in line with seven points.
"Taylor played with a lot of heart," noted Freed. "We did a much better job offensively in the second half. We passed well, moved, and took care of the ball."
7th Grade Girls Hoops
TOWNSHEND -- Julianne Liebow scored 22 points to lead Leland & Gray to a 41-13 victory over Bellows Falls. Mariah Hazard netted nine points for the 1-1 Rebels.
8th Grade Girls Hoops
TOWNSHEND -- Jessi Stockwell went off for 17 points and her Leland & Gray team trumped Bellows Falls 41-12. Cara Linder and Caroline Tietz each followed with six points for the 1-1 Rebels.
