BRATTLEBORO -- Three top seeds won boys basketball crowns on Saturday, as Vergennes (D-2), Williamstown (D-3) and Rochester (D-4) all prevailed in a state final. But No. 1 St. Johnsbury fell to No. 3 Rice, 48-40 in overtime, in the Division 1 Championship.

The favorites have been advancing in the girls basketball tournaments for the most part, except in Division 4 where 12th-seeded Danville earned a spot in the semis. The Indians knocked out No. 5 Whitcomb 57-46 in a playdown game and then got 24 points from Pam Greaves in a 44-36 victory over No. 4 Concord in the quarters.

The girls basketball semifinal matchups look like this: Division 4 -- No. 1 Proctor vs. No. 12 Danville and No. 2 West Rutland vs. No. 6 Arlington; Division 3 -- No. 1 Hazen vs. No. 5 Winooski and No. 2 Williamstown vs. No. 3 Thetford; Division 2 -- No. 1 Mt. Abe vs. No. 4 Hartford and No. 2 U-32 vs. No. 3 BFA-Fairfax; Division 1 -- No. 1 CVU vs. No. 5 Burlington and No. 2 Rice vs. No. 3 Essex.

And the hockey finals are as follows: Division 1 Girls -- No. 1 BFA-St. Albans vs. No. 3 Essex; Division 2 Girls -- No. 1 Harwood vs. No. 2 North Country; Division 1 Boys -- No. 1 South Burlington vs. No. 3 CVU; Division 2 Boys -- No. 1 U-32 vs. No. 3 Burr and Burton.

Greyhawks vs. Enforcers

BRATTLEBORO -- On March 3, the infamous Brattleboro Greyhawks, a collection of coaches for the Brattleboro Hockey Association, squared off against the Enforcers, a

platoon of hockey-playing law enforcement officials from all around Vermont.

The coaches prevailed, 8-3, with the highlight being Sam Kilelee scoring twice and then being handcuffed on the ice by one of the troopers. Luke Evans, Rob Pattison (2), Chris McLaughlin, Andy Rockefeller and Andy Dick also found the back of the net for the winners.

The Greyhawk roster also included Mike Fellows and Dan McLaughlin in goal, along with Mike Antonucci, Sumner Curtiss, Larry Doucette, Peter Eden, captain Mark Long, Asa Goodband, Damon Kindopp, Gordon Little, Scott Lyford, Steve Lynn, John Peloso and Jared Powers.

The Enforcers roster included Eric Albright, Chase Locke, James Hughes, Ted Cantwell, Harry Barber, Daniel Hall, Jason Gosselin, Jamie Foxx, David Kitchen, Paul Barci, Jeremy Wyskiel, Marc Donk, Henry Duhaime, Dana Gerard, Brian Lepamplemousse and Chris Kopac.

At the second intermission, the troopers presented the BHA with a generous check to go to the Hockey Scholarship fund, allowing local youths an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of hockey. Overall, the event raised more than $2,000 toward the scholarship fund.

Brattleboro men’s softball

April 10 -- Gibson-Aken Center from 6-7 p.m., agenda includes: submission of rosters and liability forms, collection of fees, distribution of game balls.
