BRATTLEBORO -- Police continue to investigate a Thursday afternoon incident which began with two women allegedly being forced into a car at gunpoint and ended with four people being arrested and charged with kidnapping and burglary.

Just before 1 p.m., Brattleboro Police said, a group had forced two women into a car at gunpoint. The suspect vehicle was located and stopped by police.

At that point, police arrested Jacobina Carter, 38, of Brattleboro; Marcus Koritz, 19, of Springfield, Mass.; and James Manning, 29, of Jersey City, N.J.

Police tracked a fourth suspect -- Salahdin Trowell, 30, of Jersey City, N.J. -- to an apartment at 125 Canal St., where he was holed up with a 2-month-old baby. Two adults were removed from the residence, detained, and later released. Police entered the apartment and rescued the child, evacuated the rest of the building and then, after several hours, located Trowell (hiding under a bed) and arrested him without incident.

The Vermont State Police assisted at the scene.

Police said more arrests are expected.
