SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT. >> Republican Lieutenant Gov. Phil Scott is kicking off his campaign for governor.

Scott will formally make his announcement late Tuesday afternoon in South Burlington. He faces a primary contest against retired Wall Street executive Bruce Lisman for the Republican nomination to replace Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin, who announced in June he won't seek a fourth two-year term.

Former Transportation Secretary Sue Minter and former lawmaker Matt Dunne are both seeking the Democratic nomination.

Vermont House Speaker Shap Smith earlier this month dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination, saying his wife was being treated for breast cancer.
