GRAFTON >> Select board members in Grafton are divided over a proposed commercial wind project that would bring 28 wind turbines to the southern Vermont town and neighboring Windham.

Vermont Public Radio reports the issue of potentially hiring a lawyer to represent Grafton in negotiations with developer Iberdrola Renewables was tabled until May at Monday's select board meeting.

Iberdrola Renewables is hoping to bring what would be Vermont's largest commercial wind project to the area.

Select board member Al Sands said the town needs to hire an attorney soon so voters in November can know "what the agreement is about."

Iberdrola has offered approximately $285,000 in annual property taxes for the eight turbines that would be located in Grafton. Windham would receive about $715,000 for 20 turbines.
