RUTLAND, VT. >> The Vermont-based Rutland Herald and its sister newspaper, the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus are eliminating print publication on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The Rutland Herald reports the company will continue publishing an online edition seven days a week. But it's moving to a four-day-a-week schedule for print editions.
The reduced printing schedule will result in expanded newsprint editions on Thursday through Sunday. News, sports, opinion, comics and obituaries will be part of the online editions.
R. John Mitchell, president of the Herald Association Inc., says the changes will allow the company to avoid eliminating staff members.
The company says more than 49,000 digital access subscriptions have been registered since they were first offered in 2010. More than 60 percent of home delivery subscribers have registered for online access.
