State fire investigators look into the cause of an early morning house fire in Jacksonville on Thursday. Crews responded to a fully involved first-alarm house fire at 568 Route 112 around 2 a.m. No injuries were reported and it took roughly two hours to tackle the fire. Five departments responded to the fire.

JACKSONVILLE >> An early morning fire is being investigated by the state's Fire Investigation team.

According to Whitingham Fire Chief Stanley Janovsky, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but it is clear the damage was extensive.

"It's hard to say if it's a total loss, but it was pretty bad," he said. "Fortunately, everyone got out safe."

Whitingham received the call from Fire Mutual Aid at just past 2 a.m. on Thursday. Within a couple of hours, said Janovsky, the fire was contained, but firefighters will still on scene when the sun came up, making sure the blaze didn't reignite.

The Whitingham Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Halifax, Wilmington and Readsboro, and Colrain, Mass. In addition, firefighters from Marlboro provided coverage while the fire was being fought.
