Symington to announce bid for governor Monday

MONTPELIER - Two top Vermont Democrats say House Speaker Gaye Symington will announce her gubernatorial candidacy Monday.

A high-ranking Democratic lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak for Symington's campaign, says Symington will announce her candidacy against incumbent Gov. Jim Douglas, a three-term Republican.

Symington, a Jericho Democrat, will say only that she's planning an announcement for Monday morning, but won't say what it will be.

Progressive Anthony Pollina also is running.
