Submitting your news

The Reformer welcomes your news items. The Reformer prefers e-mail submissions. Since not all items can be e-mailed, faxes may be sent to 802-257-1305; news items may also be mailed to Brattleboro Reformer, Attn: News Department, 62 Black Mountain Rd., Brattleboro, VT 05301.

When e-mailing, keep in mind:

* Send us news items at least 7 days in advance of the event. The Reformer cannot guarantee publication of items received later than that.

* Briefer is better. Items of 300 words or less are preferred.

* In the e-mail subject line, use a two- or three-word description and give a date of the event, if there is one. For instance, Church Spaghetti Supper, Nov. 30.

* Do not send us attachments; avoid sending HTML-coded text, signature lines and e-mail backgrounds/stationary. Copy and paste the plain text into the body of the e-mail.

* To send a photo, e-mail it to news@reformer.com.

* When writing your news release, make sure these basic questions are answered: What is it? Who's doing it? When is it? Where is it? Who do readers contact?

To send a letter to the editor:

E-mail your letters to news@reformer.com. letters may also be mailed to Brattleboro Reformer, Attn: Letter Box, 62 Black Mountain Rd., Brattleboro, VT 05301.

* The Reformer reserves the right to edit letters for length, style and content.

* All letters must include the author's address and telephone number.

* Writers are asked to limit their letters to 500 words in length.

* The Reformer does not run anonymous letters, form letters or letters seeking funds.

* Do not send us attachments; avoid sending HTML-coded text, signature lines and e-mail backgrounds/stationary. Copy and paste the plain text into the body of the e-mail.

To send an obituary:

If this is a notice placed by a private individual, please include your name, complete address, and phone # so we can input the information into the system and provide you with a price quote.
There is a base charge of $50 for the first 15 lines and additional lines are charged at $3.50 per line. A line consists of roughly 30 characters. A photo can be added for an additional cost.

Direct obituary questions to 413-496-6226, Monday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m.
For questions that arise prior to these times, dial 413-496-6357 (Robbie) weekdays from 9 to 5.

To send a legal notice:

Please send all legals via e-mail.

The preferred method is typed up in the email itself or attached as a Word document.

Please specify the publication(s) in which the legal is to run in and on which days and for how long.

All legals must be received by 4 p.m., at least two days prior to the date of publication. If it's a publication date of Monday then the legal must be received by 4 p.m. the Thursday before.
