BRATTLEBORO — Local author and publisher Dede Cummings discusses her new book 'The Good Living Guide to Beekeeping; Secrets of the Hive, Stories From the Field, and a Practical Guide That Explains it All' published by Good Books, a division of Skyhorse Publishing of New York, at 6 p.m. on Friday at Everyone's Books, 25 Elliot St., during Brattleboro's Gallery Walk.
Cummings offers readers something truly unique – a book that comes alongside you like a wise friend, offering sage advice as well as humorous anecdotes and fascinating interviews with beekeepers across the country.
She will be joined by local beekeeper, Gordon Fisher, of West Brattleboro. Cummings did an interview with him, who is featured in the book, along with another local beekeeper, Jennings Berger from Townshend.
According to Vermont beekeeper, Scott Wilson, the co-owner of Heavenly Honey Apiary, "Cummings has bridged the gap between a typical textbook and 'how to' book by providing the reader with pertinent information coupled with humorous, but applicable, real-world examples. The symbiotic relationship between beekeeper and honeybee is displayed by the words of the beekeepers as they discuss why they love keeping bees. The novice beekeeper will gain a foundational understanding of the basic requirements for beginning this fascinating hobby. Interspersed throughout the book are amusing stories about beekeepers as well as their individual techniques with beekeeping.
