WILMINGTON >> The Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce unveiled this year's valley-wide community arts installation, "Cool Running in the Valley," at the fireworks on July 2.
Sixteen exquisite toboggans painted by area artists represent a variety of painting styles and genres. The toboggans will be displayed as a group in Wilmington at the Crafts Inn in July, Wahoo's in August, and at the town park West Dover during September and October before heading to the Grand Summit Hotel.
The toboggans go to auction on Nov. 26 at the Mount Snow Resort immediately following the Fireworks and Torch light parade. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit Deerfield Valley Community Cares Heating Assistance, The Deerfield Valley Food Pantry and Make-A-Wish Vermont.
Mini-toboggans are also still available to area schools for fundraising. Sponsored mini-toboggans will be painted by valley students. Several have already been done by students at Readsboro Central, and they are presently on display at Bartleby's Bookstore in Wilmington. Proceeds from the auction of school toboggans will go to the classes responsible for producing each sled. Mini toboggans will be displayed separately from the larger sleds, and in area retail shops throughout the Summer and Fall.
Vermont Hooters, a toboggan painted by Suzanne Stefanik, depicts the variety of owls found in Vermont. Raffle tickets are available for $10 at the Chamber offices. The raffle winner will be announced at Mt. Snow on Nov. 26 at the toboggan auction. A portion of the raffle proceeds will also benefit area nonprofits.
