Four Windham County students graduate from Stratton Mountain

STRATTON MOUNTAIN -- Stratton Mountain School held graduation on May 26. Windham County members of the Class of 2012 are: Mackenzie Fisher of Brattleboro; Hunter Lathrop of South Londonderry; Tanner Mottau of Stratton Mountain; and Isabelle Pelletier of Grafton.

Class of 2012 Awards

Jay Leach Award: Mackenzie Fisher.

Vermont Principals’ Association Award: Hunter Lathrop.

SMS Alumni Association Award: Tanner Mottau.

Athletic Awards

Alpine Men Achievement: Tanner Mottau.

Nordic Women Achievement: Isabelle Pelletier.

Magdelene Blakeson wins VA’s Female Scholar Athlete Award

SAXTONS RIVER -- Vermont Academy senior Magdelene Blakeson, daughter of Karin and Alexander Blakeson of Dummerston, was the recipient of The Female Senior Scholar Athlete Award at Vermont Academy’s commencement ceremonies. The Senior Scholar Athlete Award is presented to a member of the senior class who has made significant contributions to the athletic program and has a distinguished academic record.

Blakeson graduated with a 3.73 cumulative grade point average in three years at VA, receiving high honors all six semesters. She was also a three-season varsity athlete (soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse) and captained all three teams in her senior year. She will attend York University in Toronto this fall where

Kurn Hattin receives
$40,000 donation

WESTMINSTER -- Alvin L. Southwick was a long-time Westminster resident and former owner of BDR Transport Company. He was a charitable man and provided a testimonial to Kurn Hattin Homes and several other charities after his death. His friend, Fred W. Yates, made a special presentation on June 2 during the Kurn Hattin Day celebration of a $40,000 check for new dugouts on the softball field and other athletic improvements.

Clark earns bachelor’s degree

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Leila Clark of West Townshend, Vt., graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Colorado College on May 21. Clark is the daughter of John Clark of West Townshend and Ruth Duell of Columbia, Conn.
