NEWFANE -- The Newfane Garden Club sponsors the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest each year for the NewBrook Elementary School students. This year, Ainsley Meyer, a first grade student at NewBrook Elementary School, was the first place winner for the Best Poster in Vermont and Best Poster in New England in the contest.
The contest shows their understanding of wildfire prevention and the importance of environment and conservation. It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Forest Service and The National Federation Garden Clubs of Vermont.
The entire class participated in the contest. Other students who were recognized are: Quinn Healy, runner-up for Vermont, and Ricardo Vega, Julia Jones, Spencer Butynski, Ansley Henderson, Makayla Froment, and Evelyn Swim.
Joyce Orgera, a member of the Newfane Garden Club, oversees the program at the school.
