PUTNEY -- Twilight Music presents a contemporary folk singer/songwriter triple bill featuring Antje Duvekot, Mark Erelli and Michael McDermott at Next Stage, 15 Kimball Hill on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Duvekot is a German-born, American-raised singer/songwriter whose songs have been critically praised for their hard-won wisdom, dark-eyed realism and street-smart romanticism. Her bicultural upbringing and relative newness to English have helped shape her unique way with a song, giving her a startlingly original poetic palette. They are the keys to the powerful, even revolutionary, empathy that informs everything she writes.
She has won some of the top songwriting awards including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Kerrville Folk Festival Best New Folk Award and the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act. Since the release of her debut studio CD "Big Dream Boulevard," which was voted No. 1 Folk Release of 2006 by the Boston Globe and was named to the Top 10 Releases of the Year by National Public Radio’s Folk Alley, Duvekot has been touring extensively, criss-crossing the U.S. and Europe. She has played at major festivals, including Newport, Mountain Stage, Philadelphia, Falcon Ridge, Great Waters and Kerrville.
Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Erelli has won music awards ranging from the Kerrville Folk Festival Best New Folk award to grand prize in the International Song Contest. His eight solo albums have spent weeks in the top 10 of the Americana radio charts and garnered four Boston Music Award nominations. In addition to touring internationally as a solo artist for the past dozen years, sharing the stage with the likes of Dave Alvin, John Hiatt and Gillian Welch, he has gained notoriety as a sideman, accompanying artists such as Lori McKenna and Josh Ritter.
Since the release of his 1991 Billboard Hot 100 charting single ("A Wall I Must Climb"), McDermott has exhibited a talent for mature and lyrically dense songwriting with introspective, character-driven songs. Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Heather Horton will join him for this concert.
Tickets are $16 general, $14 for students and seniors. For ticket reservations and information, call 802-254-9276.
The concert is presented in conjunction with Next Stage Arts Project. JD McCliment’s Pub will provide a beer and wine cash bar.
