In Bellows Falls...

RUMMAGE SALE: The Ladies Aid & Mission Society will hold a Rummage Sale on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 9 Church St., in Bellows Falls.

Clothing and many items will be offered at reasonable prices. Coffee and doughnuts, hot dogs and soda will also be available. Proceeds will be used for local and worldwide missions.

In Brattleboro...

SPRING RUMMAGE: The United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church will hold its spring rummage sale on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. New and used clothing will be featured. Prices are not marked. Customers may take what they need and pay what they can.

Monies received are given to both local and Methodist Mission needs, including the Brattleboro Drop-in Center, Brattleboro Pastoral Counciling Center, Women’s Freedom Center, Morningside Shelter, the Overflow Shelter, Hospice, CHABA, and others.

The church is located at 18 Town Crier Drive, off Putney Road, across from the Shell station. The entryway is handicap accessible. For information, call 802-254-4218 or e-mail fumc@sover.net.

SWAP PROGRAM: The Windham Solid Waste Management District Swap Program on Old Ferry Road is open every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until noon. It is a free outlet for materials that are still usable, but for which there is no traditional re-use program.

People are asked to use all other available outlets before bringing items to the Swap Program. Items brought in may be passed along to other non-profit groups.

Items brought in must be in usable condition and must be accepted by a staff member before being left. Due to the need to close promptly at noon, large loads of donations may not be accepted after 11:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome to bring in or take out materials. It is not necessary to do both.

Some items that usually are not accepted are appliances, upholstered furniture, carpet, computers, mattresses, clothes and tires. These items may be placed on Freecycle at www.freecycle.org.

Items available this week include: Nordic Track, end tables, baby bath, covered litter pan, electric jar opener, toddler ride-on toys, three-ring notebooks, ironing board, dish drainers, coasters, cat scratch post, toddler bed frame, sewing patterns, wall mirrors, reel mower, and a television.

In Dummerston...

OSHER LECTURE: The fourth in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)’s spring series of morning and afternoon lectures continues on Monday, April 29.

In the morning lecture, Zeke Hecker, a composer and student of music, will examine the golden age of the Broadway musicals, the 1950s.

The afternoon program, by Lynette Rummel of Marlboro College, will discuss how the Arab Spring uprisings came to Libya.

Morning lectures will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Afternoon lectures from 1 to 3 p.m. All will be held at the Southeast Vermont Learning Collaborative, 471 Vermont Route 5, in Dummerston. Parking and handicapped access are available. Light refreshments will be served.

The lectures are produced by the Brattleboro OLLI chapter, now in its 10th year. Lectures are open to nonmembers for a fee of $6 per lecture.

In Guilford...

BOOK SALE: Guilford Community Church, UCC, will hold its annual Book Sale on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An excellent selection of current books will be for sale. This fundraiser will enable the church to continue to support many human service organizations, both locally and globally.

The church is located at 38 Church Drive. From Exit 1 of Interstate 91 take Route 5 south one mile (just past the Guilford Country Store) turn left onto Bee Barn Road and bear left onto Church Drive.
