BRATTLEBORO -- New England Youth Theatre is holding auditions for "Richard III" for ages 14-19 on Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Rehearsals will be Mondy to Friday, July 22 to Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Performances will be Aug. 9-11.

Keely Eastley and David Vann will take students on an advanced and in-depth leap into the bard. The Senior Shakespeare program is an experience of a lifetime for young actors who are ready to dedicate three weeks of the summer to their craft.

"Richard III" is one of Shakespeare’s most murderous plots -- Richard manipulates, marries and murders his way to the crown of England and then epically battles to keep it. "Richard III" was chosen for this summer’s production because it is a political tragedy with some major comedy and fantastic larger-than-life characters.

Plan to stay for at least 90 minutes. The audition will start with a short voice class led by Keely. Come prepared to do some physical acting work and dress appropriately in movement attire.

Come prepared with a 15-20 line monologue from Shakespeare’s "Richard III." The speech can be from any character -- not necessarily one you think you could play or would like to play. Make sure it is a speech you love. Be prepared to discuss the piece -- stand by for the possibility that the directors might want to workshop a part or the entirety of your monologue. You will be auditioning in front of the other auditioners and a panel of the directors and staff working on the production.

Tuition for this summer training program is $500, and financial aid is available. Contact the NEYT office for more details at 802-246-6398, ext. 101 or michelle@neyt.org. For more information, visit www.NEYT.org.
