BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School Music Department will present its annual Pops Concert on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the BUHS auditorium. Admission is free.

The concert band will perform selections from the movie soundtracks of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" and "The Incredibles," as well as a transcription of the Ottorino Respighi’s finale from "The Pines of Rome."

Jazz workshop will next take the stage with a Frank Zappa set that will include "Blessed Relief," "Son of Mr. Green Genes" and "Peaches en Regalia." They will also perform Horace Silver’s "Peace."

The Madrigals present a variety of songs chosen by senior members. These will include "Spectrum" by Florence and the Machine (arranged by and featuring Julia Stevens), "Liepo Pjeva" by Emill Cossetto (directed by Sam Green), a mash-up of Charlie Chaplin’s "Smile" and Bobby McFerrin’s "Don’t Worry Be Happy" (featuring Aurora Phillips and Peter Green), The Beatles’ "Paper Back Writer" (featuring Cody Gauthier and Molly Rice) and U2’s "Where the Streets Have No Name" (featuring Graham Glennon).

The jazz band will follow with three selections, including Oliver Nelson’s "Emancipation Blues." Also on the program will be Duke Ellington’s "In a Sentimental Mood," featuring tenor saxophonist Ethan Manning and "The Best Is Yet to Come" by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh, featuring Aurora Phillips on vocals.

The chorus will conclude the concert with selections from the musical "The Lion King." Featured soloists include seniors Molly Rice, Ethan Manning, Annie Caltrider, Benson May, Peter Green, Amanda Rink, Cody Gauthier, Alec Silver and Nick Fisher. Accompanists will include percussionists Steve Leicach and Steve Rice as well as bassist, Jamie MacDonald.

Thirty senior class musicians will be honored during the concert. Patty Meyer directs the choruses, Steve Rice leads the concert band and jazz band, and Jamie MacDonald directs the jazz workshop.
