David Chase discusses ‘Grants Ferry’

CHESTER -- David Chase will talk about his book, "Grants Ferry," at Misty Valley Books, on the Green in Chester, on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Chase is a native of Brattleboro, was a long-time member of the Planning Commission there and is a founding member of the Brattleboro public access channel. For many years, he wrote a weekly column for the Brattleboro Reformer and the Keene Sunday Sentinel, and his play, "As Fair As You Were," was produced by the Vermont Theatre Company.

"Grants Ferry," his first novel, is a vivid, charming and accurate portrayal of a small Vermont town, "somewhere between Springfield and Windsor."

In the novel, Kenneth Forbes, following a 30-year absence, is summoned back to his hometown, Grants Ferry, to settle his recently deceased Aunt Fanny’s estate and eventually finds himself soundly ensnared in Fanny’s trap. But Grants Ferry survives. Its history is long and peppered with local characters, often a touch eccentric, who create a pleasant mix of humor, cruelty, tenderness and violence.

A reception will follow Chase’s discussion. For more information, contact the bookstore 802-875-3400 or visit www.mvbooks.com.
