BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro Figure Skating Club proudly sent United States Figure Skating Association skaters Rose Dumaine, Reagan Shippee and Amelia Opsahl to compete at State Games of America in Hershey, Pa. The team skated in nine events and brought home one Silver Medal and eight other ribbons.
Dumaine of Jacksonville took home one Silver Medal (2nd place) for Limited Beginner Program, as well as placing sixth for Pre-Preliminary Artistic, and eighth for Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Moves.
Shippee of Vernon placed fourth in Showcase, sixth in Preliminary Program, eighth in Artistic and 11th in Compulsory moves.
Opsahl of Chesterfield, N.H., placed seventh and 12th for her programs.
Overall, the skaters performed and placed incredibly well given the competition: there were thousands of skaters from 47 states. These young skaters must qualify by receiving a medal in their home State Games Competition in order to receive an invitation to State Games of America.
Dumaine won a Gold and a Silver for Vermont in the Nutmeg Games in Connecticut in 2012; Shippee placed fourth in the Bay State Games in Massachusetts in 2012 and won Silver at the Nutmeg Games in 2013 for the state of Vermont. Opsahl won a gold medal at Bay State Games in 2012 for New Hampshire. All three skaters from Brattleboro Figure Skating Club have already qualified to skate at State Games of America in Lincoln, Neb. in 2015.
