THETFORD -- The Brattleboro Union High School cross country teams competed in the Thetford Woods Trail Run on Saturday. The Colonel boys placed 42nd out of 51 teams and the girls placed 38th out of 48 teams.
There were 756 competitors in the five boys races and 602 competitors in the five girls races. The competitors were divided into 5 boy and 5 girl divisions based on entry times, giving athletes a chance to compete against runners of similar ability.
Brattleboro’s Dana Alexa was 5th in her race out of 111 competitors with a personal best time of 27:29. Josh Meachen was 16th in his race out of 159 runners with a personal best time of 20:55. Dan Burdo, Phelan Muller and Katie Reynolds also ran personal best times.
The BUHS boys and girls teams will travel to Springfield today for an MVL meet.
PUTNEY -- The 27th annual Putney Recreation Soccer Tournament is a round robin tournament with 14 grades 4-6, coed soccer teams from 12 area towns.
A team of players from the Twin Valley school system went 4-0 on Saturday to earn the top seed for Sunday’s single-elimination tourney. They went on to defeat Dummerston, 2-0, in the finals and finished up with a perfect 7-0 mark and zero goals allowed.
The Twin Valley players are from the towns of both Whitingham and Wilmington, with many having played together since kindergarten. The coaches are Robert Bolognani and Adam Grinold.
