BURLINGTON -- Sarah Wells scored four goals on Tuesday and the top-seeded Bellows Falls field hockey team trumped Lyndon, 8-0, in a Division 3 semifinal at UVM.
"We are beyond excited," said Terriers coach Bethany Coursen after the game. "We have worked really hard. It’s pretty awesome to be going to the finals."
And it’s been quite a turnaround for Bellows Falls, which had just a dozen players on its roster four years ago when the team finished up with a 2-12 record.
Kya Coursen and Mariah Barnett each had one goal and a couple of assists versus Lyndon. Cassidy Santorelli and Anna Clark both found the back of the cage once.
"We went up there not really knowing that much about Lyndon at all. The girls were nervous, it was a long two and a half hour ride, we were going to be playing on turf," added coach Coursen. "It’s a totally different game on turf."
Shea Wilkinson and Quinn Lawrence teamed up for the shutout in goal for the Terriers, who will meet the winner of today’s North Country-Stowe game in Saturday’s championship game at UVM.
