BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Elks annual Hoop Shoot contest will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Brattleboro Union High School in the gym. Sign up will start at 11 a.m. and the Shoot will begin at 11:30 a.m. sharp.

There will be three age levels for both girls and boys. The levels are ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant on April 1, 2013.

The winners in each division will have the chance to go on to the Southern Districts to continue their competition.

Rec basketball

BRATTLEBORO -- In recent women’s league basketball action at the Gibson-Aiken Center, Chroma beat Lawton Flooring 49-36 and New England House downed Houghton 52-35. Aleigh Parker (Houghton) and Ashley Gomarlo (New England House) were the top guns with 22 points apiece. Mary Symonds and Denise Shanti scored 13 and 11 points respectively for Chroma.

College news

Leland & Gray graduate Ashley Goddard has started in all seven games as a freshman on the Johnson State College women’s basketball team. She has 35 rebounds, 11 points and four assists for the 2-5 Badgers. Twin Valley grad Devon Spirka is averaging 12.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists for the Nichols College women’s basketball team (5-2). And senior Scott Hayford of Wilmington has racked up 72 points, 24 boards and 13 dimes for the 4-2 Nazareth College men’s basketball team.
