PETERBOROUGH, N.H. -- The Bellows Falls-Hartford wrestling team scored 154 points and placed first against nine competitors in the Conval, N.H. Tournament on Saturday. Nolan Viens, Brendan Kendall and Jake Lober all won their weight class for the Terriers.

Keene and Plymouth finished first and second respectively in the team competition.

Viens (160 pounds) defeated ConVal’s Adam Smullen 18-6 in the finals, Kendall (126) took care of Adam Hughes in his finale, and Lober (220) pinned Jon Norton in the second period of his championship match.

Austin Viens (113), Steve Cerrone (138), Sawyer Reis (120) and Kyle Record (182) all went 2-1 and took the silver in their division. John Harris took third in the heavyweight class and Cameron Viens (120) wound up fourth for Bellows Falls-Hartford.

"This is the first time that Bellows Falls and now Bellows Falls-Hartford has ever won a tournament championship on the varsity level. All the wrestlers worked hard to achieve this championship," stated coach Claude Weyant.

The Terriers will travel to Otter Valley on Wednesday. Wrestling is expected to start at 6 p.m.

Girls Hockey

Middlebury 4, Brattleboro 0

MIDDLEBURY -- The Colonels managed just four shots on goal against the unbeaten Tigers. They have now been outshot 174-54 on the season.

"We have a solid defense, anchored by goalie Alex Fellows, but we need to score some goals. We need to generate more offense," said BUHS coach Kraig LaPorte.

On Thursday, the Colonels will face Mount Mansfield in Essex at 7:45 p.m.

Boys Hockey

Woodstock 4, Brattleboro 0

WOODSTOCK -- Connor McCarthy scored twice to lead the winners, while Connor Joyce and Will Gault also split the posts. The Colonels dropped to 0-3 overall, and the Wasps improved to 2-2.

JERICHO -- Tinga Adiang finished with 17 points and Kyle Adams followed with a dozen to pace the Cougars in Saturday’s season opener.

Chris McAuliffe and Conner Elliott-Knaggs paced Brattleboro with 16 and 15 points respectively.

The 0-1 Colonels will play at Windsor on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Leland & Gray 62,

TOWNSHEND -- Corey Nystrom led Leland & Gray with 18 points, Ryan Borgeson had 14, and Corso Donati chipped in with 12.

"We found our groove in the beginning of the fourth and we out scored them 23-12 to take a good size lead," said Rebels coach Andrew Nystrom. "It was a nice team effort."

The Rebels next game is at Black River on Friday at 5 p.m.

WILTON -- Matt Boggio scored a team-high 11 points for the Pacers during Friday’s season opener on the road. Kyle Rideout followed with 10 points and Matt Crothers netted nine for 0-1 Hinsdale, who will host Monadnock on Wednesday.

Middle School Hoops

TOWNSHEND -- Julianne Libeau and Mariah Hazard scored 14 and 12 points respectively to lead the grades 7-8 Leland & Gray girls basketball team to a 47-31 come-from-behind victory over Vilas on Friday.

The Rebels then defeated Bellows Falls, 39-6, on Monday. Hannah Buffum scored 17 points and Libeau added 14.

The 2-0 Rebels will host Winchester on Friday at 5:15 p.m.
