BRATTLEBORO -- Jake Hubbard went off for four goals and one assist as the Missisquoi boys ice hockey team trumped host Brattleboro, 6-2, on Saturday at Memorial Park.

Collin Beyor and Logan Day also found the back of the net for the winners. Ian Walsh was in net for 3-6 Missisquoi.

Declan Lonergan and Jon Curtis each had one goal and one assist for the Colonels. Brattleboro (2-7) will host Northfield on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and play at Mt. Mansfield on Jan. 20 at 1:15 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Twin Valley 48, Mt. Everett 38

WILMINGTON -- The Wildcats held the Bay Staters scoreless for a stretch of 13.5 minutes and improved to 6-3 overall.

"It was a really nice win for us," noted winning coach Buddy Hayford. "We played some really solid defense."

Sammy Cunningham (13 points), Colton Butler (11) and Savannah Nesbitt (10) did the offensive damage for the hosts. Cunningham also had seven rebounds, five assists and five blocks.

Hannah Swanson (8 points, 10 rebounds) and Kira Courchesne (5 points, 5 rebounds) also contributed.

The team from Sheffield, Mass., was led by seventh grader Gwen Carpenter, who scored 16 points -- all in the fourth quarter -- and drained four trifectas.

Fundraiser

BRATTLEBORO -- The annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the BUHS boys ice hockey team will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Brattleboro Elks from 6-8 p.m.

The meal will be served by the members of the boys hockey team. The costs are: $10 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

Tickets may be purchased from any boys hockey team member or call Sherryl Libardoni at 380-8134. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. If you are unable to stay, you can also order the meal to go.

College News

Former Twin Valley student Candon Rusin is averaging 8.0 points per game for the University of Vermont men’s basketball team. He also has 20 rebounds and eight assists so far this season. The 8-8 Catamounts will play at Maine on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Twin Valley graduate Devon Spirka is averaging 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Nichols College women’s basketball team in Dudley, Mass. The Bison (7-5) will play at Endicott on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Freshman Ashley Goddard has scored 32 points and yanked down 50 rebounds for the Johnson State College women’s basketball team. The Leland & Gray grad will try and help the 3-8 Badgers outscore Castleton State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Wilmington’s Scott Hayford has started all 13 games for the Nazareth College men’s basketball team. He’s averaging 10.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the 8-5 Golden Flyers.
