BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Union High School boys basketball team defeated Hartford, 51-25, Monday at the BUHS gym.

Chris McAullife scored 15 points, major contributions came from Sam Siegel, Isaac Roach and Conner Elliot-Knaggs on defense, and Kevin Tao and Bobby Righi showed strength off the bench, as Brattleboro improved to 9-7 with the win.

"Everyone contributed in a good, team win," said Colonels coach Joe Rivers. "It was a nice little warm-up before our last stretch here."

Brattleboro sits in eighth place in the Division 1 rankings

"There’s a pack of us that are all close together," said Rivers.

The Colonels will host sixth-ranked Rutland tonight at 7.

Junior Olympics

BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will be hosting the Junior Olympics during Winter Carnival Week.

On Monday, Feb. 17, downhill ski races at Living Memorial Park will start at 9 a.m. with registrations while races will begin at 9:30 a.m. sharp.

On Wednesday, Feb. 19, skating races at Nelson Withington Skating Facility at Living Memorial Park will start at 2 p.m. with registration and a 2:30 p.m. sharp race time.

Races are open to all school age children. Ribbons will be awarded to the first five finishers in each of the several categories and all participants.

DUDLEY, Mass. -- Wilmington’s Devon Spirka is averaging 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Nichols College women’s basketball team.

Her 11-10 Bison are coming off of an 80-65 victory over Western New England in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday. The former Twin Valley point guard had 14 points in 38 minutes of action.

She paced Nichols with 20 points and four assists in a 67-59 win versus Eastern Nazarene before that.

JOHNSON -- Freshman Ashley Goddard, who graduated from Leland & Gray, has scored 89 points and grabbed 101 rebounds for Johnson State College.

In the Badgers’ one-point victory over Maine-Farmington on Saturday, Goddard finished with 10 points and eight boards.

She had eight points and seven rebounds in Friday’s 71-51 decision over Thomas.
