Beginners' Birdwalk May 3 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Join Refuge staff on this early morning walk along the canal and Barton Cove. Experts and beginners alike are invited to join us. Accessible and free.
The Fabulous Maurice May 9 7 to 8 p.m.

Celebrating Migratory Birds May 10
Join Refuge Staff on a day full of bird walks, activities, and adventure:
· 8 to 10 a.m., bird walks in Turners Falls
· 11 a.m. tonoon, indoor or outdoor activities on bird migration, flight, feeding, and survival at the Discovery Center (outside weather permitting)
· 2 to 3 p.m., indoor activities on bird nests, eggs, fledglings, and survival at the Discovery Center.
Join Rachel Roberts for this free workshop for families with young children featuring "Buds and Blossoms: A Book About Flowers" by Susan Blackaby. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Montague Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Living with Dinosaurs May 17 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
When the teenage Pliny Moody unearthed a slab of fossil "bird tracks" on his father's South Hadley farm in 1802, he had no idea that he'd found evidence of astounding creatures from the deep geological past: no one had even heard of dinosaurs! Join science history buff Sarah Doyle and geologist Steve Winters for a combined cultural and geological history tour of Pioneer Valley dinosaur fossils. $10 fee; ($5 each to PVI & the Friends of the Great Falls Discovery Center). Exhibit Tours May 23 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Join Great Falls Discovery Center staff for a tour of the exhibits. Come investigate critters that you may not spot on your own!
Nature Walk May 27 8 a.m.
Nature at 8 is an early morning nature walk over paved bike trails and village sidewalks. Nature at 8 topics may include "Wing and Water," informal birding and observation of waterfowl activity in Barton Cove, or "Riverwatch," an early-morning exploration of Barton Cove and the power canal. Meet at the bird bath in front of the Great Falls Discovery Center.
Learn to Fish! May 29 6 to 8 p.m.
Free and open to the public with a special invitation to children under 16. So...parents, come and bring your children to explore the world of fishing. All materials provided! Pre-registration required. Call 413-863-3221. Run by the MassWildlife Angler Education Program and co-sponsored by the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.
Water and Watersheds May 31 11 a.m. to noon
Hands on activities about water for elementary school students and their care givers. Includes a river story, using watershed model, and experiments with water. Water is what connects us to the land and other living things. Come learn and explore with Refuge staff.
Great Falls Discovery Center hours are Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 17. Summer Hours start May 18, open 7 days a week, from 10 a.m. to4 p.m. every day of the week.
