Patrick Hanas, a Culinary Arts senior at Franklin County Technical School from Conway, was recently honored at the 22nd annual Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Awards Banquet. This event, held annually at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, is jointly sponsored by the Massachusetts Vocational Association (MVA) and the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA).
Patrick is an officer in National Honor Society and SkillsUSA and is also a member of the FCTS School Council. Additionally, he is actively involved in community service and works part time at both the Elm Farm bakery and the Blue Heron Restaurant. Patrick plans to attend the New England Culinary Institute in the fall and hopes to one day open his own restaurant in this area.
A highlight of the awards banquet was the speech delivered by Lt. Governor Timothy P. Murray who lauded the honorees as "shining stars," and told them "your energy, ideas and talents are a pipeline for Massachusetts' future." He also exhorted the students to continue to set a great example.
