Pothole Pictures begins its fourteenth year of showing classic, foreign, and independent movies on the big screen on the weekend of May 2 and 3.

In conjunction with Northampton's Pride Day, which occurs on Saturday, May 3 this year, Pothole Pictures will present a showing of Markie Hancock's moving personal documentary Born Again , along with an appearance by director Hancock on Saturday night to discuss the film.

Born Again is the story of Hancock's slow and painful break from her born-again Evangelical Christian family and faith as she gradually grows into her life as a lesbian and explores the larger world.

It's a coming-of-age story, as well as a coming-out story, as she uses her personal journals, home movies, and early student films to chronicle her struggle to leave faith and family, the only world she knew, to find herself.

Born Again will be shown Friday and Saturday May 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. Hancock, a frequent visitor to Western Mass, will make an appearance at Saturday's show to introduce and lead a discussion about the film.

Both nights before the film from 7 to 7:30 p.m. - Northampton's Carrie Ferguson and the Cherry Street Band will perform
