The outpost has been the base of operations for six troopers, a sergeant and a detective sergeant, according to reports.
Rutland barracks commander Lt. Charles Cacciatore said the state police presence in the area wouldn't decrease. He said patrolling troopers would still have a base of operations, most likely in Fair Haven.
Cacciatore said advances in technology have diminished the need for the outpost. He said while police at one time relied on land lines for phone and Internet connections, modern police cruisers are like rolling offices.
