MONTPELIER (AP) - A former Vermont man is going to spend two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to fraud charges stemming from the collapse of a property management company in Montpelier.

Sixty-five-year-old James Pumpelly, now of Lake Charles, La., was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Brattleboro.

Federal prosecutors say Pumpelly misappropriated tens of thousands of dollars in rent money - some of it federal rent subsidy money - that Parkside Management and Rentals Co. collected on behalf of the landlords, diverting it for his use and that of his ex-girlfriend, the owner of Parkside management. She was not charged.

Pumpelly must also pay restitution of nearly $300,000.

Pumpelly must surrender to the federal Bureau of Prisons in October.
