Emergency Preparedness Zone (Vermont Yankee)
VERNON -- State and local public safety agencies have scheduled this weekend a test of the 37 sirens located within the 10-mile emergency planning zone around the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. The test will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at noon.

Pole-mounted sirens are located in Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford and Vernon; in the New Hampshire towns of Chesterfield, Hinsdale, Richmond, Swanzey and Winchester; and in the Massachusetts towns of Gill, Colrain, Leyden, Bernardston and Northfield.

The three-minute siren testing is being conducted by the Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts state public safety agencies, in compliance with the regulations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to ensure the effectiveness of the public notification system.

Residents with questions on the annual testing are asked to contact their town's emergency management director. For further information, residents may also contact Mark Gilmore at Vermont Yankee, at 802-258-4168.
