Dr. Jay Batra told state officials this week that he's leaving.
Vermont Public Radio reports that acting Mental Health Commissioner Mary Moulton says Batra's departure could delay the opening of a new, interim state hospital in Morrisville.
The former Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury was forced to close due to flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in late August 2011. Some patients were sent to other facilities around the state, including the Brattleboro Retreat. The state now plans to build a new hospital in Berlin, but that won't be open until 2014.
