MONTPELIER (AP) - The University of Vermont is one of the top ranking schools in the country in the production of Peace Corps volunteers.

On Tuesday, the Peace Corps released the latest rankings of schools in the large, medium and small schools categories.

Currently there are 37 former UVM students serving in 28 countries across the world, from Azerbaijan to Zambia. Those numbers rank UVM fifth in the medium-sized school category.

The state of Vermont consistently ranks at or near the top of the per-capita lists of the production of Peace Corps volunteers. Now ranks as top volunteer-producing state, with 7.2 volunteers per 100,000 residents.

Worldwide there are more than 8,000 Peace Corps volunteers working in 76 host countries on projects related to agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health and youth development.
