KEENE, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire firefighters are battling a fire in a fuel tanker in the city of Keene.

Officials say the tanker was carrying several thousand gallons of fuel when it caught fire Friday morning.

New Hampshire State Police Lt. Nicole Armaganian says the crash involved two vehicles, but she did not have information on the condition of the vehicles' occupants.

She says Route 12 is closed in the vicinity of the accident, which is near the intersection of Routes 12 and 9.

KEENE, N.H. -- Route 9 between Washington Street and the Route 12 on ramp has been closed due to a serious accident involving a fuel truck and at least one other vehicle.

Reports indicate an explosion resulting in fatalities.

According to a report in the Keene Sentinel, emergency officials were reporting two fatalities and said the truck was carrying gasoline and diesel. An environmental cleanup company was also en route.

Keene police Capt. Brian C. Costa, through the Sentinel, was asking drivers and parents to avoid roads in the area, as emergency crews worked to get the situation under control. He asked drivers to seek alternate routes until further notice.
