COLCHESTER (AP) - Gov. Peter Shumlin, other officials from his administration and leaders of the Vermont National Guard are gearing up to provide an assessment of the impact of the government shutdown on Vermont.

They've scheduled a news conference at the Guard's Camp Johnson in Colchester for Monday at 12:45 to give their read on the situation.

The Guard last week announced it was placing 450 people on furlough and cancelling an October training weekend in response to the impasse in Congress that has thrown the federal budget into disarray.

Monday's event is expected to include Shumlin, Guard Adjutant General Steve Cray and the heads of several state agencies.
