WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a domestic assault that resulted in one person being stabbed with a steak knife.
According to a press release from the WPD's Matthew Murano, the department received a 911 call at 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 22, reporting of an assault in progress. Police officers responded within six minutes where they found an injured man with stab wounds and another man covered in blood.
According to the press release, Matthew K. Lavoy, 22, of Brattleboro, was spending the night at the residence when he threatened one of the residents of the home before grabbing a steak knife from the kitchen. Another resident of the home locked herself in a bathroom out of fear for her own safety after Lavoy also threatened her.
A fight followed and Lavoy allegedly stabbed another man before the knife was taken away from him. Lavoy then went into the kitchen and retrieved a pair of scissors. Police officers arrived at this time and took him into custody. Lavoy was cited with first-degree aggravated domestic assault and aggravated assault. He was held without bail pending an arraignment. Deerfield Valley Rescue assisted at the scene.
Lavoy was arrested by the Brattleboro Police Department on Nov. 21 after officers responded to a parking lot in downtown for a report of a male that was being aggressive. He was arrested and cited with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
• The Hinsdale, N.H., Police Department was called to the Wal-Mart Super Center for a reported domestic disturbance. As a result, Clifford Sprague, 35, of Springfield, Vt., was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant.
• At 3:15 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to Route 121 in Grafton for the report of a single vehicle crash. Troopers determined Deleann Moore, 15, of Chester, lost control of her vehicle and went off the right side of the road. This occurred after moving to the right to allow room for an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle went down a small embankment and struck a small tree. Moore and a passenger were wearing seatbelts and neither was injured.
• At 7:55 p.m., the Vermont State Police responded to the Exit 6 off ramp of I-91 north in Rockingham for the report of a single-vehicle crash. Troopers determined Christopher Brooks, 39, of Rutland, had driven off the road and about 50 feet down an embankment and into the woods. Brooks was taken by ambulance to the Springfield Hospital for his injuries. The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
